Marble powder has various contemporary uses, both in the arts and in decorating industry.

- to make plasters such as Marmorino Venetian plaster

- as filler in paint

- in frescoes to replace sand

- to harden surfaces for oil pastels

The addition of marble powder allows the material to shrink less during drying process which is the best method for smoothing a texture. The addition of marble powder does not change the colour of the material. 

The coarse marble powder is also used for creating the famous salt and pepper effect.
